It seems the “real” summer weather has finally landed on our shores! Amid the predicted heatwave, with highs of 33 degrees, we’d like to make our own prediction: barbeques galore and more than a few refreshing beverages being consumed! However, nothing compliments the perfect summer’s day like cocktails. That statement is quite broad of course, as cocktails come in many shapes, sizes. Therefore, it is entirely necessary that we compile a list of our favourite cocktails to enjoy during the fantastic summer season, enjoy!

A traditional Cuban highball perfected to quench your thirst on a hot summers day; the Mojito Slush improves upon its regular counterpart with the added coolness and frozen texture of a slushy to maximise its refreshing taste.

Rosé CoolerD6FTTJ

Main Ingredients:

  • Rosé
  • Raspberry Vodka
  • Grapefruit Juice
  • Cherryade

There’s nothing like a topped glass of pink chill of an evening, are we right? As a matter of fact, you can go a long way with a bottle of rose and a few extra ingredients. Courtesy of The Telegraph, this irresistible concoction of rose, cherryade, grapefruit and a topping of raspberry vodka creates a succulent, fruity whirlwind of flavour. As an optional garnish, pop a cherry on the top.

Sangria

Main Ingredients: Simple-Traditional-Red-Sangria-SQUARE

  • Brandy
  • Dry Red Wine
  • Triple Sec
  • Lemon, Orange & Lime

Now we turn to the dark side! This dark red delight, famous in Portugal and Spain, has an ancient backstory. During the times of the great Roman Empire, it is believed that the Romans mixed wine with water to sanitise the drinking water of their expanding empire as it reached the Iberian Peninsula. Nowadays, however, it isn’t a matter of sanitation, but a matter of being parched on a blisteringly hot day. The combination of Red wine, citrus fruits and brandy provide a luxurious refreshment to be enjoyed a summer’s day.

The Henry J Team’s Personal Choice

Gemma – Slow brambleBramble-1

Main Ingredients:

  • Gin
  • Lemon Juice
  • Crème de Mure
  • Simple Syrup

Easy to make and well balanced in its sweet and sour tones, the Bramble has become something of a modern classic. Appearing on most bar menus across the UK, it is essentially a short “Gin Sour” with a drizzle of Creme de Mure, a French blackberry liqueur, over the top. The Bramble came into existence during the 1980’s, the brainchild of the cocktail revolutionary Dick Bradsell.

Despite its young age, the Bramble makes up for lack of heritage with an elegant appearance and an aurora of class, and we assure you that it tastes even better than it looks!

Holly – French 75Draaanks-French-75

Main Ingredients:

  • Gin
  • Brut Champagne
  • Lemon Juice
  • Simple Syrup

This next cocktail Is sure you knock your socks off! A classic, hard-hitting refresher with Champagne and gin, the French 75 remains one of the most elegant cocktails to infiltrate bars across the world. Stemming from Paris, in what is now known as “Harry’s New York Bar”, the French 75 packs a punch, lacking sweetness and perhaps over delivering in strength. Although later variations of the 75 replace gin with cognac, a French spirit, to reduce the harshness of this otherwise excellent concoction.

Henry – Bloody Mary landscape-1464792225-gettyimages-492645073-1

Main Ingredients:

  • Vodka
  • Bloody Mary Mix (Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, tomato juice, anchovy, sriracha, mustard, lemon, lime)

Ah, the Bloody Mary! A name that is possibly referencing Mary I of England for the thousands of Protestants she put to death, the Bloody Mary can also be traced back to Harry’s New York Bar, Paris. Starting out as a half and half of tomato juice and vodka, the taste at first came across as rather bland to customers. Therefore, with added black pepper, cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon and even a healthy portion of tobacco, the Bloody Mary is recognised as one of the most complex cocktails in the world (and nicest!) For the perfect Bloody Mary recipe, look here.
